Welcome to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and our special page about Catholic Life in our school.
To celebrate the Month of Lady, our pupil Chaplains are leading pupils in reciting a decade of the Rosary before school each Wednesday at 08.40am in the KS2 Hall.
This morning we were pleased to see so many children arrive with their Rosary beads, ready to offer their hearts and prayers to our Lady. We look forward to seeing you again next week.
Ash Wednesday is one of the most popular and important holy days in the liturgical calendar. Ash Wednesday opens Lent, a season of fasting and prayer. KS2 pupils attended Mass at St Joseph’s where we received the ashes which symbolise the dust from which God made us.
During Lent we will pray, and we remind ourselves to put others first, to show mercy to all and to put God at the heart of everything we do.
2017 Lenten Appeal
Our 2017 Lenten Appeal with the Catholic Children’s Society is themed as ‘Growing Together.’ We were lucky to be joined by a representative from the Catholic Children’s society to launch this special appeal on Monday.
The pupil Chaplains delivered our Lenten boxes, activity sheets and workbooks. Our focus will be to look at the different actions we can take to work together and grow closer to God this Lent.
A People Of Prayer
At this time of year we are learning about the prayer life of the Church. The People of Prayer unit explores the Feast of the Epiphany and two prayers found in Matthew’s Gospel: the Beatitudes and the Lord’s Prayer. It asks pupils to consider the people they think are Beatitudes People, including St Teresa of Calcutta.
It is also hoped that pupils will develop:
- A willingness to pray
- An openness to people of other faith traditions
- An appreciation of the role of prayer in deepening a relationship with God
- A sense of wonder about different styles of prayer
Pupils in Year 5 have been writing their versions of the Beatitudes
“This Is The Year Of Mercy”
Here at St Joseph’s School we have been learning about the ‘Year of Mercy’. We have been thinking about how we can be merciful towards others in both our actions and our words.
Please have mercy on the peoples families have had Ebola. It must have been very devastating. Please make sure they have somebody to give presents to this Christmas. Please give them the courage to carry on life normally. Amen

Have mercy on us and liberate us from our sins. Forgive the people who do bad in this world but don’t understand what they’re doing. Please help us to be like Jesus and follow in his footsteps. Amen

Our School Chapel
We are very fortunate to have our own School Chapel that is the centre of spiritual life in our School. Masses and liturgies are held here as well as Stay & Pray for parents and children each morning and Chaplain lunch time prayers.
